My technique and philosophy

Simplicity is a guiding principle in my work. I developed my practice to help people unwind in a safe, natural, and restorative way.

Breathing
Breathe fully and deeply, but don't force it. By allowing your diaphragm to relax as you breathe out, you will allow your lungs to achieve full ventilation naturally. Practicing this method of breathing, called ujjayi, or "victorious breath", will measurably calm you by increasing pulmonary ventilation and measurably lowering your blood pressure. Let the rhythm of your breathing focus your mind.

Man-to-man positioning
Since the time of Avicenna, the Arab philosopher who brought massage out of yogic antiquity to the West, massage for men has traditionally been provided with the giver of the massage working closely with the receiver, even straddling his legs and, occasionally, back. I recognize the simplicity of working on a floor, which provides firm support, is too much for some clients, which is why I work on a chiropractic mattress surface. Feel free to look at photos of my studio here.
Simplicity
I use a relatively small number of strokes in my massage in a variety of ways: gliding, medium-depth, deep tissue, and occasionally, percussion. The long, circling, or light feathering touch is probably predominant in my massage, particularly when I sense a client is nervous or not relaxed, as these strokes build relaxation and trust. Medium-depth kneading, pulling, or wringing seak to penetrate deeper into your muscles, stimulating your blood and lymphatic circulation. Because people vary greatly in their tolerance to the focused thumb-rolling, heel of hand, or fingertip pressure of deep tissue strokes, I apply these sparingly, unless you clearly indicate you want me to push deeper. Even still, I am a gentle masseur: if you're looking to be pummelled and sore afterwards, please seek someone else. Cupping, hacking, plucking and pummeling are all percussive strokes, which are stimulating rather than relaxing.
Sensuality
I believe that sensual massage is a legitimate expression of the joy of masculine touch. Sensual massage is also safe massage: because no fluids are exchanged, there are no vectors for disease transmission. Therefore, sensual massage is safe place for you to explore how you feel about massage, touch, and man-to-man interaction in general. However, in some cases I may determine, at my sole discretion, that some sensual modalities are not appropriate. Please know this, because I want my customers to seek me because of the whole experience I provide, and not because of any specific manual technique.

I hope that answers all your questions about my technique. If you have further questions, contact me here.
